Preliminary competitions for the 1st World Martial Arts Peace King Cup Tournament took place on September 4, 2004 in Moscow. 13 black belt Tong-Il Moo-Do instructors of North-East continent gathered to compete for the honor to join World Peace King Cup tournament as representatives of the North-East Continent. The competitions were preceded by the 3 days seminar, the purpose of which was to master and perfect high level techniques (men - breaking, women - advanced self-defense) and thus to make the best preparation for the World tournament. During the seminar the participants showed high spirit of discipline, unity and mutual support expressing their full determination to carry on TIMD project in the North-East Continent and to make it successful. The tournament started with the words of encouragement of the secretary general of TIMD International Mr. Murakami, who emphasized the historical meaning of the competitions both for CIS and for World Martial Arts community and encouraged the participants to make their utmost efforts for the success of the tournament. In the first category "Individual Form Competitions" participated men and women together. Each of them presented one of the secular forms and free style form. The performances were full of sincerity and heart. The best one in this category was Vitaliy Naumov (Ulynovsk) who as a free style form presented taekwondo form "Kare" with music. In the next category "Team Form Competitions" took part four teams of Moscow, Ulyanovsk, Ufa and Ekaterinburg. Each performance was presented with music, was unique and exciting. It was a real expression of unity, harmony and beauty of the team work. The category "Special Techniques" was probably the most exciting one. The participants showed their mastery in breaking and weapon techniques (nunchaku), but the most exciting was advanced self-defense performance by Ekaterina Shleapnikova (Moscow). She presented the elements of self-defense taken from different styles such as hapkido, aikido, dziudziuzu and taekwondo. All the participants, especially women, were very inspired. The sparring competitions were held in two weight categories light-middle weight and absolute weight category. The participants took it that seriously as they were fighting at the World Tournament already. The tournament was interesting as the fighters used different techniques, being unique in their own way and it was difficult to foresee who would win the fight. The winner in the light-middle weight category became Nikolay Samiev (Russia). And the battle became serious when he and Vitaliy Naumov met in the absolute weight category fight. Both fighters were strong enough in techniques and physical power, but Vitaliy managed to score more points and became the champion in absolute weight category. The seminar and the tournament left unforgettable memories in the hearts of the participants. They all caught a real spirit of being one family of TIMD instructors and left home with a new spirit and determination to support each other and to make TIMD witnessing in the North-East Continent successful.
