Tong-Il Moo-Do Workshops and Demonstration in Poland

June 20th, 2005

It was a great rewarding experience for Poland to conduct for the 1st time the 3-day workshop with Master Takamitsu Hoshiko, Master Don Harbor and Master Griu Valerian in the town of Ilawa from June. 3rd to 5th., in Warsaw from June 7th to 9th and the Demonstration on the Polish Cup All Style Karate in the Minsk Mazowiecki city.

The participants were mainly Tae Kwon-Do youth, and 2 Shotokan Karate Black Belts, some from Kyokushin Karate and Kick Boxing students.

At the beginning, when the masters started the lecture on "The New Philosophy of Martial Arts" and "Character Education", some of them were very sceptical about the effect of the lectures upon them. But the more students heard the lectures, the more they became serious and attentive. The lectures were on "3 Moral Goals", "Mature Character", "Family is the School of Love.", "True Love", "The Problem of Modern Education". Most of more than 20 participants who took the test did well because they considered the subject of the education very seriously.

The second day basically comprised of the Tong-Il Moo-Do practitioners, we covered the Circular motion basics, applications, and the forms. In addition basic falls, basic throws, wrist lock and ankle lock.

The training included breathing, circular motion, basic techniques, one step sparring. But it focused mainly on self-defense. Master Don Horbour surprised all the students extremely as they never saw such techniques before. He emphasized the importance of circular movement to be effective to protect ourselves from assault.

We owe the seminar to Mr. Jan Roman Braun, the head of many Martial Arts organizations in Poland and Europe. In the first day of the seminar the TIMD team where invited by the Mayor of the Ilawa city as the special guests.

On 7-9 there was another 3 days seminar in Warsaw in Mr. Jan Roman Braun's dojan where many Martial Artists from different styles have been training for 40 years. Mr. Braun is one of the most influential Martial Artists in Poland. He devoted 50 years of his life in Martial Arts receiving many awards from the government, and different organizations. He wants Tong-Il Moo-Do to be the officially registered and become the main Martial Art in Poland and Europe.

We do have the lecture of IEF once a day for 1 hour. After attending the seminar, already several people have had expressed their desire to become TIMD instructor. Mr. Braun has been encouraging them to attend 2 weeks workshop.

On the 11 June, we were totally overwhelmed by such warm welcome at the tournament site by Mr. Braun, the President of the tournament, Masters of different Arts, 130 competitors, parents and guests. In front of about 300 people, he introduced all the TIMD Instructors from Japan, USA, Moldova, and Russia, and 3 of them had opportunity to give an address to the tournament's participants and spectators. We had the occasion to be connected with so many Polish Martial Artists from many different backgrounds whom we never saw before.

Taekwon-Do, Shoto-Kan, Jeet Kune-Do, Shaolin Kempo, Sports Karate, Jujitsu, Kick Boxing, Wushu, Ashihara-Karate, etc.were present. The gym was newly built just one year ago, and was so beautiful.

The opening ceremony was followed by the demonstrations. The audience was attracted by TIMD performance very much. By looking at their facial expression, we could observe very clearly how much they were interested, surprised, stimulated and enjoyed. During the demonstration, Mr. Braun was explaining about TIMD and our performers, and supported us. Especially women' self-defense impressed them with great spirit and dynamic movements. The audience applauded many times. Everyone made utmost efforts and did very well in each performance.

As result of this TIMD work in Poland Mr. Jan Braun got the honorary certificate and the black belt for promotion of TIMD in Poland and the TIMD as Martial Arts Style become officially registered in the Polish Budo Association and Master Krzysztof Obrebski became the official director of this style.

Finally from 20th June - 3rd July 2005 in Glanow (the suburbs of Krakow), in Poland, the 1st International Tong Il Moo Do 14 day Seminar in took place. There were 17 participants and nine of them had attended before the 3-day trial Seminar in Ilawa city.

All participants worked really hard starting their day from 7.00 a.m. till 22.00, seriously preparing for tests. Two people were injured. The Seminar made the real chance to develop the TIMD in Gdansk, Warsaw, Ilawa and Glanow cities.
