TIMD in 'Service for Peace' in Abidjan and TIMD entertainment on 'Fathers Day' in Nouveau Quartier , Cote D'Ivoire

July 7 and 30th, 2005

"Service for Peace" project was part of the program of the year, the goal was to go towards the society and give service with the objectives of promoting peace and sharing our love with others. It was organized in collaboration with other youth organizations like YFWP, CARP, HARP and Youth Group of Yopougon.

The date was the 7th ,July 2005 and the venue was 'SOS children's Village' , a home for orphans situated in Abobo area , a district in Abidjan. Our program of the day consisted of cleaning the compound, sharing with the children a meal and in the end to close with the TIMD demonstrations.

The Director of the home and the staff received us warmly and we started the program in the morning by gathering in the social hall where the children's representative welcomed us in his short speech and introduced the children to us. This was followed by introduction of the TIMD representatives and the members of the other organizations. In this occasion , Mrs. Susan Kone gave a brief introduction and history of TIMD and also the goal and objectives of the Federation, she explained the vision of education for young people and especially in moral and character education which very much inspired the staff of the home since they are also dealing with the internal and external development of the children.

Soon after that we started the cleaning, all the children were very eager to mingle with us and to share in the work and this made it all the more exciting and heart-moving to see children opening up to us like we have known each other for years! During mealtime we were divided in teams where everyone was to go and share the meal in a family- the orphans lives in different houses under the care of a foster mother so the atmosphere is more of a family and this was also an experience to remember for all of us. At the closing time we held a demonstration of the different techniques and forms which was very appreciated by all including the Director and the staff. The end was marked by inviting children on stage to join in the movement of Tongil Aerobics with music which was a great moment of laughter and dance for them.

After that there was a vote of thanks and we promised to go back there again for more demonstrations, 'Service for Peace' and introduction of the character education lectures. At the end of the day we all went home feeling rejuvenated by the whole experience knowing that we have left behind happy faces and have sown seeds of peace and love through 'Service of Peace' This project was coordinated by a TIMD Instructor Tahou Eric Joel.

Our TIMD demonstration team was invited to an occasion to cerebrate a postdated 'Fathers day' held by one organization named 'The Association of Fathers of Nouveau Quartier'. The introduction of TIMD to this Association was made with the help of Mrs Abe Leah the spouse of the National Leader of FFWPU- CI.

One of our goals of the year 2005 is to hold many demonstrations with an aim of introducing TIMD in schools, colleges and even estates and thereafter open clubs. The date was the 30th, July 2005 and the venue was Nouveau Quartier , in Abidjan. The attendance was good and consisted of Parents Associations, Youth groups and many young people from the estate. The Mayor of the area had sent his representative to grace the occasion.

The demonstration was scheduled for the afternoon and our Demonstration Team took the morning time to prepare in forms, self-defense, breaking techniques, one step-sparring and the ballet.

When it was our turn, the TIMD demonstration team entered in style to the appreciation from all present. We started with the forms and concluded with the 'Eye of the Tiger' ballet accompanied with a thunderous applause from the crowd. After that there was refreshments and we took this time also to distribute pamphlets of introduction to TIMD, many young people came looking for information on how to contact us. They asked us if we can open a club in a school nearby so that they can start training. Our hearts were melted by their sincere heart and desire to train in TIMD and we determined to start a club in their estate.

This Demonstration Team was coordinated by a TIMD instructor Zani Gueu Hilaire.
