KTMF-Coast Branch held the Provincial Tong-IL Moo-Do Championship on 8th April 2006 at the Police Dog Unit TIMD Club. It was the first tournament in the region in this year and we really worked hard to make it a great success.
The participants showed great skills which translated to a positive development of Tong-IL Moo-Do as a sport and a discipline.
The tournament was attended by over forty Tong-IL Members and was very successful.
There were four teams from the region and@this was the first time to have teams compete in a Provincial event because in the past two provincial tournaments were made as individual tournament because of low membership.
Now we have more members and have set a target of having over 200 active Tong-IL Moo-Do Members by the end of 2006.
The Provincial Tong-IL Moo-Do Championship -2006 Organizing committee comprised of students raised from the Coast Province headquarters club invited all Tong-IL Moo-Do practitioners and Clubs to participate in the tournament.
Practioners competed in Forms and Sparring categories.
Ladies, Junior Boys and Girls competed as individuals while Senior Men competed as teams. The team was composed of Four Players each.
After the tournament members were awarded trophies and medals, and were so exited. Most of the Junior boys and girls were new members and it was a great experience for them to win in a big TIMD tournament.
Among the large audience which filled the club hall were TIMD Fans, Parents, the Family Federation for World Peace-Chairman Coast - Mr.Fred Rangala, a Senior Police Instuctor -Mr.Wilson K. Kosgei and the Club Patron - Mr. C. Lomo the Police Dog Unit -Coast Provincial Dog Master.
The tournament was sponsored by Mr.Talal Mohamed of TANJAL INVESTMENTS, Mr.Anthony Warui of Anjeli LTD, Kenya Tong-IL Moo-Do Federation- Coast Branch, CMIWAKS SPORTS and Councillor Ben Makadu.
The Chief Guests were: Mr. C. Limo (Police Dog Unit Boss), Fred Rangala(FFWPU Chairman-Coast Province/Character Education Lecturer ) and Insp. Wilson K. Kosgei.
They gave testimonies after the tournament and among all the speakers said were impressed by the high discipline shown by the practitioner especially in the sparring competition and perseverance.
They also said TIMD can be a good tool for young people to use their energies positively through community service, spreading the Tong-IL Moo-Do Philosophy to our neighborhoods and encouraged the members to continue with the same spirit.
The event was stunned by the young Texas Alarms player's morale and high spirit, who were attending their first sparring competition and some members had trained for just a few weeks.
The Texas Alarms team was also determined to complete the competition despite the fact that they were to report to work on the night after the tournament since they work for a security firm.
Judges were Simon Peter Kiriro and Michael Simon Mutuku.
The tournament received good publicity from the Press and was aired in several radio stations.
