At 34 Degrees Centigrade, the weather was quite hot and nothing could change the mood other than a great Youthful Tong-IL Moo-Do Demonstration.
It was a memorable day for the Kenyan history for it was hoisting the 35th edition of the World Cross Country.
Light Academy Secondary School is an International Turkish owned School. Its among the best performing schools in our National Examination-KCSE and IGCSE Examination. Its also found in several other countries apart from Kenya.
At around 1p.m. the whole school gathered at their outdoor Basketball Court ready for the anticipated demonstration.
On realizing the court could be very hot I suggested that everyone wears sports shoes, but the students said they will be ok. So we all went for the demonstration bare foot. after stepping on the court floor everybody got burned under the feet by the already heated floor but despite all this we were determined and did 3 Ten sets of strong Punches before we bowed and left the burning court. The little experience reminded me of a Kunfu movie I had seen where the monks were training on top of a hot plate.
The Deputy Principle decided that we change the site to a more greener and cool area. We did the demonstration on the school lawn.
Eight energetic teenager boys (Hesbon, Danson,Abdisalam ,Major, Marltoo, Nephat, Njoroge) and the two instructors Ibrahim Mchumba and Gilbert Mayar did an amazing powerful demonstration showcasing soft and hard TIMD techniques.
They started with Basic techniques signifying the formation stage then followed by Pyung Hwa Eui Bon which was being performed in public for the 1st time in the Province. It was performed very well in tune with the music and breathing in and out harmoniously.
Then we did Sawigidae Eui Bon and later on I and instructor Gilbert Mayar(Blue Belt/Brown Stripe) did Chamsarang Eui Bon with music. After that I paired up with Instructor Ibrahim Mchumba(Brown Belt) and did Wang Kwong Eui Bon. The audience was astonished with the unison movements in harmony with the music as we were doing the Circular Forms.
After that all members paired up for a random self defense demonstration where we had different types of attacks including weapons. That part was done very nicely for it looked almost real. We included a combination of soft and hard techniques which truly expressed the superiority of Tong-IL Moo-Do techniques.
Our large school audience gave us a big applause for the great performance we exhibited.
We had compliments from the Principle Mr.Ibrahim Artila Dumlu and The Deputy principle Mr. Engin Gul who have been very supportive towards the development and formation of the TIMD Club at the school. Most of the teachers present really commended the training not forgetting the great support of Mr. Habel and Mr.Ahmed of the school's sports department.
We are optimistic that with this new curriculum for High School students can enhance the development on TIMD and after they finish four years we can always be producing many more Black Belts. We shall also have a very competitive High School Category Tournaments yearly in order to take care of our young members.
I would like to thank the great inspiration we got from Dr.Seuk for making TIMD available to us young people. The best we can do is teach it to more people young and old.
