REPORT OF THE SOUTHAMERICAN OPEN TOURNAMENT OF
UNIFIED MARTIAL ARTS
UNIFIED MARTIAL ARTS
With only two months of anticipation we began to work preparing for this tournament. We had an idea of realizing a local tournament in order to celebrate the two years anniversary of the Foundation of the Paraguayan Tong-il Moo-do Association, but at the request of Master Delio do Santos from Goianias, Goias, Brazil, Vice-president of the Brazilian Karate Semi-Contact Federation, we extended our range to the South American Region.
The event was divided in two parts: One Educational and other Competitive. The Educational part was centered on Character Education, Sports Training and Rules of the Competitions. The speakers were Shihan Fransisco Rodriguez, master of Aikido, Mr Virgilio Benitez from behalf of the Sports Ministry, Master Gustavo Giuliano. We also had the participation of the FFWPU President in Paraguay Mr. Aristides Rondan and Master Sang Seuk Kim and from the Acuamundo Company Mr. Otmar Graml who were some of the sponsors of this event. They presented the participants with the Autobiography of Rev. Sun Myung Moon who is the inspirer of the Tong-il Moo-do style. Masters and teachers from Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina as well as representatives of different styles from Paraguay participated.
The competitive part was developed with total normality. 150 competitors participated. Representative of the Sports Ministry Prof. Virgilio Benitez, who is also Master in Tae Kwon Do, gave the opening remarks.
The modalities of the competition were: Empty hands forms, forms with weapons, dial combat and Tong-il Moo-do style as well as exhibition modality.
Within the three foreign delegations, Brazil brought the most competitors and received a trophy as well as the Hapkido School of Master Arcadio Aranda representing Paraguay.
The Directive Commission of the Paraguayan Association of Tong-il Moo-do thanks all of those who made this tournament possible, hoping to have many more in the future.
